Martyrs of the planet
Have absorbed darkness into themselves,
Not many bouquets are brought them,
For they are prone to onslaught,
To thuggery, boorishness, robbery,

Not only among themselves,
But among the neighbors too.
They befriend only misfortune,
And see blessing in calamities.

They carry grief as medicine,
Prosperity is their enemy.
Or maybe we should pity them?
For they pull onto themselves our gloom as well,
To free us from it —
To teach where truth is, where evil.
