It’s pleasant to meet a sensible person,
I’ll share with them, take from them,
I’ll laugh, rejoice, rest my soul
And, encouraged, go on.

If I bump into a boor, I won’t run,
Let them teach etiquette to me and themselves,
Instead of shaming, dishonoring mother,
I’ll quench my anger — maybe dignity will take hold.

Evil and good, stick and carrot
Lead pupils in the needed current.
Children and old, sober and drunk,
They will perfect us and take us into the Kingdom.
