In tandem the cars and the locomotive
Compete over who is more important.
Who more sincerely
Served people for their good,
Who is truly better, who is worse.

The engine turned the wheels,
Brought the consumer
What was needed almost to the house,
But not all the glory is the tractor’s —
It HAD to haul the body too
(Of whose importance I stay silent).

Let the head stay in its place,
Though it seems to dominate,
And its words are haughty,
But it is worth nothing
If there is no body with it.
