Where one’s own, where the stranger, Orwell explains:
They carefully gather rocket fragments,
The greatest scoundrel receives a medal,
The poet sings of wars.

They bless the instruments of killing,
They count ruins as achievement,
The aggressor arouses no contempt,
They hound peacemakers with accusation.

Fire engines burn.
Must I too, to the opposite,
Rewrite the commandments and the covenant?
