“When they curse, bless” —
Easy to say from the sidelines.
Make a bed for a scoundrel?
Don’t you dare! Cut evil at the root!
Forbid it!
To the reviler and his accomplice.

If I nod to the aggressor, he’ll go further,
Swallow it and lick his chops,
And won’t stoop to even think “sorry.”
A seared conscience does not repent.
Even when it crucifies Christ, —
All around they weep, and it smiles.

The shameless cannot be forgiven.
And the one who came down from heaven,
Even killed, rose again,
To bless.
