The gopnik tests
For weakness and for indifference,
Forces one to resist.
He organizes the forces of good,
Strengthens their commonwealth,
So that at least a rebuke gathers.

They hope for his repentance,
For the conversion of a spoiled conscience,
For compensation of losses —
While courage is lacking.

Until a brave one is found
Not inclined to violence.
It is good if he acts wisely:
Speaks and stops the evil.
