The herd has scattered, the savanna gone still,
A hungry predator hunts.
The confused young
The fatal burst has passed by.

The horned leader
Fights desperately,
Photographed by tourists.
The gawkers have been seated in a cage-van
And there is no one who would fire a shot.

Safaris have become different,
Gamekeepers now scare the hyenas off —
Tours smell of bigger profits.
Demand has been met,
The spectators have paid,
They have seen blood and they give thanks.
